Voter Turnout in the United States: A Data-Driven Learning Guide (ICPSR 302)

Data-Driven Learning Guides are a collection of instructional exercises that can be used to enhance teaching of core concepts in the social sciences. This learning guide investigates the differences in United States voter turnout across the demographic variables of age, race, income, and education. Research questions that can be explored using this learning guide include: which age group has the highest voting rate, whether voter turnout is higher among Whites than non-Whites, whether persons with higher incomes are more or less likely to vote than those with lower incomes, whether the highly educated have higher voter turnout rates than those with less education, what percentage of people with a high school diploma voted, and whether the relationship between voting and race differs by education level. Crosstabulation is used for the analyses.
