Scope of Study
Summary: The United States Census Bureau entered into a reimbursable agreement with a consortium of four federal agencies, consisting of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Department of Labor (DOL), and the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), to create a special tabulation identified as the Census 2000 Special Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Tabulation. This tabulation was created according to the specifications of the agencies in the consortium. However, it contains information similar to comparable tabulations from the 1970, 1980, and 1990 Censuses. The Census 2000 Special EEO Tabulation serves as the primary external benchmark for comparing the race, ethnicity, and sex composition of an organization's internal workforce, and the analogous external labor market, within a specified geography and job category.
Subject Terms: census data, demographic characteristics, educational background, employment, Equal Employment Opportunity, ethnicity, gender, labor force, labor markets, occupations, race
Geographic Coverage: United States
Time Period:
- 2000
Date of Collection:
- 2000
Universe: All persons and housing units in the United States in 2000.
Data Types: aggregate data
Data Collection Notes:
The Special EEO Tabulation consists of 24 separate datasets. Each dataset is really a set of two datasets or versions. One version covers all areas except Hawaii, and the second covers Hawaii only. The only difference between the versions is that the Hawaii version has 15 race/ethnicity categories while the version for all areas except Hawaii contains only 12.
Methodology
Data Source:
self-enumerated questionnaire
Extent of Processing: ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection:
- Standardized missing values.
