Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between system structure and the initiation of militarized disputes among "Great Power" rivals from 1816 to 1975. The Great Powers during this time period are identified as Great Britain, France, Russia/Soviet Union, Austria-Hungary, Prussia/Germany, Italy, the United States, Japan, and China.
