Scope of Study
Summary: These data were gathered to provide information on the elderly in Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, and Tunisia. Questions were asked regarding demographic characteristics (age, race, sex, marital status, religion, number of children and siblings, education), economic resources (employment status of respondent and of respondent's spouse, main income source, other income sources, whether house was owned), health (current health status, accidents and/or injuries affecting daily activities, number of times respondent saw a health professional in the previous month, number of days in hospital, nursing home, or rehabilitation center in the previous month, medications currently used, usage of any devices to assist in getting around), activities of daily living, living habits (smoking or drinking), social activities (club membership, whether respondent had a confidant), housing (satisfaction with current living conditions, accessibility to quarters, safety), and mental state of the respondent.
