Scope of Study

Summary:

This data collection contains information about church and religious organization membership by county in the United States for the year 1952. Information is provided on the number and percentage of members in churches such as the Congregational Christian, Methodist, Protestant Episcopalian, Roman Catholic, and Jewish congregations, as well as the percentage of the total population who are church members and those belonging to other faiths. Demographic variables provide information on median age, income, and education.

United States Department of Commerce. Bureau of the Census, and church records

Extent of Processing:

All archived data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. The archive also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, the archive performed the following processing steps for this data collection:

  • Checked for undocumented or out-of-range codes.
