Scope of Study
Summary: This data collection is comprised of the March supplemental data from the 1973, 1974, and 1975 Annual Demographic Files of the Current Population Survey (CPS). Standard monthly labor force data are provided in addition to supplemental data on the topic of migration. Moreover, comprehensive information is given on the employment status, occupation, and industry of persons aged 14 and older. Additional data are available concerning work experience, weeks worked and hours per week worked, reason not working full-time, total income and other sources of income, and type of residence. Information on demographic characteristics such as age, sex, race, educational attainment, marital status, veteran status, household relationship, and Hispanic origin, is available for each person in the household enumerated.

Universe: Persons in the civilian noninstitutional population of the United States living in households and members of the armed forces living in civilian housing in 1973, 1974, or 1975.

Data Collection Notes:
(1) These data are distributed exactly as they arrived from the data depositor. ICPSR has not checked or processed the data. Users should contact the principal investigators if further information is desired. (2) This hierarchical file contains 177,098 records. There are two record types: family and person. The family record contains approximately 55 variables, and the person record contains approximately 100 variables. (3) Users are strongly encouraged to read the User Guide, which contains technical documentation regarding sampling and the presence of weights. Both the family and person records contain weights, which should be used in any analysis.

Sample: A national probability sample was used in selecting housing units.
