Scope of Study
Summary: Data are provided in this collection on labor force activity for the week prior to the survey. Comprehensive data are available on the employment status, occupation, and industry of persons 15 years old and older. Also shown are personal characteristics such as age, sex, race, marital status, veteran status, household relationship, educational background, and Hispanic origin. In addition to providing these core data, this survey also contains a special supplement on tobacco use for all persons surveyed. This supplement includes information on cigarette smoking and use of other tobacco products such as pipes, cigars, chewing tobacco, and snuff. Respondents answered a set of detailed questions tailored to their smoking status, such as how many cigarettes they smoked per day, and whether respondents had smoked everyday for the past six months. Additionally, respondents were asked whether the medical community had advised them to quit smoking or if they were planning to quit in the near future. Detailed questions on smoking policies in the respondents' workplace and smoking at home were also asked.
