Principal Investigator(s): Gallup International Association
This annual survey, fielded June to October 2007, was conducted in over 60 countries to solicit public opinion on social and political issues. Respondents were asked whether their country was governed by the will of the people, whether its elections were free and fair, and whether democracy was the best system of government. The survey also asked for the respondents' attitudes about their society and their personal political leaning. Additional questions addressed respondents' actions taken to protect the environment, and whether the global influence of several major powers should increase, decrease, or remain the same. Demographic information includes sex, age, income, education level, employment status, and religious affiliation.

Data Types: survey data
Data Collection Notes:
The data available for download are not weighted and users will need to weight the data prior to analysis.
Sample type, weights, and mode of collection vary by country, and detailed weighting information was not provided by the data producer. Please refer to the codebook for additional information on sampling, interviewing and collection modes for each country.
More information about Voice of the People surveys can be found on the Gallup International Association Web site.
The CASEID variable was created for use with online analysis.
The RESPONDENT_ID variable is unique to each country, not the study as a whole.
In the variable COUNTRY, code 121 refers to Lithuania.
Sample: The survey was conducted in over 60 countries, with a minimal sample size of 500 per country. Wherever possible, within each country a nationally representative sample of n = 500 adults, male and female, aged 18 and over was used. In some emergent countries, where such research conditions are not possible, there may be stated variations to this (e.g., urban areas only). Similarly, in the developed world, interviews were conducted by telephone, while in emergent and underdeveloped countries, face to face interviews were conducted.
Weight: The data contain a weight variable (WEIGHT) that should be used in analyzing the data.
Mode of Data Collection: face-to-face interview, telephone interview, web-based survey, self-enumerated questionnaire
