Partisan Division of American State Governments Series

Investigator(s): W. Dean Burnham and ICPSR

The Partisan Division of American State Governments series was developed by Dean W. Burnham at the Massachusetts Institute i of Technology and by the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). Data are furnished annually and biennially for every legislator in the United States for the period 1834-1985. The data provide information on the number of seats held by the major and minor parties in both houses of the state's legislature and the party identification of the state's governor during the term of each legislator.
