ICPSR 2009: Real Data in a Virtual World

The 2009 ICPSR Biennial Official Representatives Meeting invites participation from researchers, librarians, teaching faculty, students, and policymakers from around the world who are interested in the use of social sciences data!

This FREE conference is hosted by ICPSR and due to its virtual nature in 2009, is open to everyone.

The theme of the 2009 meeting is "Real Data in a Virtual World" -- appropriate for the content discussed and its delivery! Starting on Monday, October 5 and running through Friday, October 9, ICPSR will deliver 20 sessions related to social science content, tools, quantitative training/literacy, and other resources associated with ICPSR and its partners. ICPSR staff will also host several live chats. The preliminary 2009 OR Meeting program has been posted.

Live sessions will be broadcast using GoToWebinar technology. This webinar technology requires no downloads to your computer and provides up to 1,000 "seats" per session. All sessions will be recorded and posted should you desire to view the presentations at a later date. And, still more pre-recorded tutorials and talks will be posted for clicking and viewing at your leisure. Registration

To ease your participation in the webinars, the first 200 registrants will receive an Axis-102 Labtec headset w/ microphone appropriate for Internet voice chat, and a packet of ICPSR promotional materials for your institution. These materials will be mailed to the address you provide and registration requests much be completed no later than September 10, 2009.

Sign up to attend live webinars or to review recorded webinars by visiting Sessions & Presentations. Here you will find the links to each webinar session such that you can reserve a seat at the session (early reservations are encouraged), and the related PowerPoint files (if they exist). This page will also contain pre-recorded tutorials and presentations. Lastly, as each live webinar concludes, recordings of the completed sessions will be posted as soon as they are available.

Discussion & Networking

In Discussion & Networking, attendees will find various topics to post/answer questions and share information. Discussions are expected to cover topics such as using (ICPSR) data in education, questions/advice on the OR/DR role, using online analysis, OR Meetings beyond 2009, general discussion, and an area to ask ICPSR staff questions. You will also find a photo gallery in this center.
