series of monthly surveys that solicit public opinion on the
presidency and on a range of other political and social issues, asked
respondents living in or around the District of Columbia questions
regarding the move of the former Montreal Expos professional baseball
team to Washington, DC. Respondents were asked whether having a
professional baseball team would be good or bad for the city and
region, whether the baseball stadium should be financed by city funds,
whether the city negotiators financed a good or bad deal with baseball
owners, whether DC taxpayers and citizens would end up paying for the
stadium, and whether professional baseball and the stadium would
benefit the city economically. Other questions asked respondents
whether they were fans of or followed professional baseball, whether
they had a favorite professional baseball team, whether they planned
to attend professional baseball games at Robert F. Kennedy stadium
during the next year, how many Baltimore Orioles games they had
attended in the past five years, how the professional baseball team in
DC would affect their attendance at Orioles games, and what
Washington's new baseball team should be named. Background information
includes voter registration, race, education, marital status, number
of children living in the household, and income.</div>
