This study, conducted November 1-10, 1947, interviewed respondents about their party identification, 1948 voting intentions, issue positions, and major
personal problems of the immediate past or anticipated in the near
future. The respondents' perceptions of President Harry Truman's stand
on specific issues and their own opinions were also assessed. In
addition, respondents evaluated Truman's general performance as
president and his relationship to certain groups. Open-ended questions
tapped satisfaction or dissatisfaction with Truman's policy toward
Russia, taxes, cost of living, and European recovery. Demographic information includes sex, age, race, socioeconomic status, education level, occupation, political party preference, labor union affiliation, and type of residential area (e.g., urban or rural).

<notes>The original data file contained two records per case and was reformatted into a data file with one record per case. Therefore, column locations for the variables listed in the data collection instrument are no longer valid.</notes>

<notes>Character values were converted from string to numeric.
Responses coded as "INAP" were recoded to 88 and responses coded as "NA" were recoded to 99.</notes>
