<dc:description>The basic purpose of the Health Interview Survey (HIS) is to
obtain information about the amount and distribution of illness, its
effects in terms of disability and chronic impairments, and the kinds
of health services people receive. The Eye Care Supplement file provides variables from the core Person file (see NATIONAL HEALTH INTERVIEW SURVEY, 1979 [ICPSR 8049]) including sex, age, race, marital status, veteran status, education, income, industry and occupation codes, and limits on activity. The variables unique to this Eye Care Supplement include information on eye care in the past 12 months, kind of doctor/specialist, place of visit, and date of last visit.</dc:description>
