<dc:description>This special topic poll sought respondents' views on the
federal government shutdown as well as their opinions of President
Bill Clinton, Congress, Newt Gingrich, and Bob Dole. Those queried
were asked how often they trusted the federal government, with whom
they placed blame for the federal government shutdown, and whether
they supported the most recent Republican budget proposal.
Respondents were also asked if they experienced any personal
inconvenience as a result of the shutdown and if they considered the
country to be in a state of crisis. Demographic variables include age,
race, sex, education, political party, political orientation, and
family income.</dc:description>
