"Your Child's Teeth" Project, 1991-1993: [New York City] Moss, Stephen J. children dental health health education infants mothers ICPSR.IX HMCA.V The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of an educational program called "Your Child's Teeth", which was designed to modify mothers' care of their young children's teeth. These data, gathered at three consecutive weekly sessions with mothers, children, and dental health counselors in New York City, provide information on the oral health of the children and the extent of the mothers' knowledge of dental care for infants. Information on the oral health of the children includes scores of caries and abscesses in the maxillary teeth, and indices of maxillary and mandibular plaque and gingivitis. Mothers were queried on how to clean infants' teeth and gums, how to prevent use of a baby's bottle from causing cavities, and other behaviors and practices related to dental hygiene.
