The purpose of the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS)
is to obtain information about the amount and distribution of illness,
its effects in terms of disability and chronic impairments, and the
kinds of health services people receive. The Currently Employed
Supplement File provides variables from the core Person File (see HEALTH
INTERVIEW SURVEY, 1974 [ICPSR 8339]) including sex, age, race, marital
status, veteran status, education, income, industry and occupation
codes, and limits on activity. The variables unique to this Currently Employed
Supplement (Part 1) include items on employment history, health insurance
coverage, time away from work due to illness, days worked in a week,
hours worked in a week, income earned per week, income lost per week
due to illness, and reimbursement for time away from work.
