This data collection is the second round in a series of
surveys (begun in 1996) of Filipino youth. Six surveys were
implemented in November 1997 throughout the Philippines, and this data
collection consists of four parts for each of the six surveys
administered. In particular, this data collection (1) allows
comparison with youth issues and concerns asked about in the 1996 set
of surveys, (2) monitors new youth issues and concerns that might have
appeared since 1996, and (3) provides a picture of special youth
groups in other parts of the Philippines outside of the National
Capital Region (NCR). Respondents were queried about such topics as
needs and aspirations, education, employment, satisfaction on certain
aspects of life, activities and involvement, experience of
discrimination, and religiosity. Further questions covered mass media,
exposure to mass media, role models, the youth legislature known as
Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), government programs and policies, and their
experiences with sexual, illegal, and socially undesirable activities.
Economic indicators and sociodemographic characteristics were also
collected.
