  3. When will the conference registration be open? And where is it located?

    Conference registration is open all day (8:30am-5:00pm) Tuesday, May 23, through Friday, May 26, in the Sophia B. Jones Room at the Michigan Union. The Michigan Union is located at 530 South State St. on central campus. Registration on Tuesday, May 23, for workshop participants will occur at the workshop venue one half hour prior to the start of the workshop.

  4. How do I find my way around Ann Arbor?

    The University of Michigan central campus is compact, with most amenities within walking distance. The Michigan Union is within walking distance of the three hotel facilities that have been blocked by the Local Arrangements Committee. The Cambridge House is about one block from the Union, while the Campus Inn and Bell Tower are just a few blocks away.

    The three workshops will be held concurrently on Tuesday at ICPSR and the Shapiro Science Library labs. All are within walking distance of the Michigan Union and the three hotels.

    The City of Ann Arbor offers a bus service that frequents the central campus area. Check the City of Ann Arbor Web site or the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority Web site for a map and bus schedule.

    Taxis also frequent the central campus area, usually outside the Michigan Union and up and down State Street. Several taxi companies that can be found in and around Ann Arbor are:

  5. Where can I do my email, word processing, or printing?

    There will be computers set up in the Pond Room of the Michigan Union, directly across the hall from the registration room. Email and Internet access will be available in this room for conference attendees during registration hours, 8:30am-5:00pm.

  6. Where are the nearest photocopy/fax facilities?

    Photocopying facilities are available in the Michigan Union as well as at Kinko's, on the corner of Liberty St. and Maynard St.

  7. Where can I buy an IASSIST 2006 conference T-shirt?

    Tastefully colored T-shirts will be available in a variety of sizes for purchase at the registration table in the Michigan Union. Prices will be announced shortly.

  8. Where can I get an IASSIST 2006 poster?

    Posters can be downloaded from the IASSIST 2006 conference Web site.

    Main Street and State Street offer several clothing and bookstores. There are also several shops along Liberty Street and Washington Street. For those who don't mind a drive, Briarwood Mall is located about a five-minute drive from central campus at 100 Briarwood Circle. Arborland Shopping Center is also about a five-minute drive from central campus on Washtenaw Ave.

  12. Where are the nearest bookshops?

    There are a number of small bookstores on central campus, including: Ulrich's Bookstore (549 East University Ave.), the Michigan Union Bookstore (530 South State St.), Shaman Drum Bookshop (313 South State St.), Michigan Book and Supply (317 South State St.), and of course, Ann Arbor's two-story Borders Books, Music, and Cafe (612 Liberty St.).

  13. Where is the nearest supermarket?

    There are two small grocery stores near central campus: South Main Market at 611 South Main St., and White's Market at 609 East William St.

  14. Where is the nearest Post Office?

    The nearest Post Office is located at 200 East Liberty St. There is also a UPS store located in the basement of the Michigan Union.

  15. Where can I find a swimming pool and other sport and recreational facilities?

    The Ann Arbor YMCA is located at 400 West Washington Ave. (734-996-9622). The YMCA also offers aerobics and weight-training classes for a fee, as well as a complete workout facility. Please call for hours of operation and class times.

  16. What are the smoking regulations?

    All buildings on campus are non-smoking. In general restaurants usually have a smoking and non-smoking section, although some restaurants are non-smoking.

  17. Taxis?

    Taxis are easily flagged on central campus. Your hotel can also phone for a cab to pick you up at a certain time. Fares are metered. Within the central campus area, fare is often under $10; fare to Detroit Metro Airport can run anywhere from $25-$50, depending on the vendor you choose.

  18. City buses?

    The Ann Arbor Transportation Authority offers a blue and white bus called "The Ride." Fixed route fares around Ann Arbor cost $1.
