Burton Tower IASSIST 2006: Data in a World of Networked Knowledge

Arrival Instructions

Attendees arriving by air should plan to fly into Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). The Detroit airport is located approximately 25 miles east of Ann Arbor, and unfortunately, there are limited ground transportation options. The current rate for a taxi is $50 each way. Conference participants may want to share taxis. Several taxis companies that can be found at Detroit Metro and in Ann Arbor are:

  • Ann Arbor Metro 734-507-9220
  • Ann Arbor Taxi 734-741-9000
  • Custom Transit 734-971-5555
  • Metro Airport Taxis 800-745-5191
  • Metro Cars 800-456-1701
  • Nighthawk Limos 734-546-5466

A less expensive option that ICPSR has used frequently when arranging transportation for visiting scholars, workshop participants, and ICPSR Council members, is a local service called Custom Transit. They have a Web site, www.customtransit.com, that allows you to make a reservation online. Visitors have also had very good experiences with their staff over the telephone (734) 971-5555. Their rate is $22 one-way to Ann Arbor (and there is a discount if you make the round-trip arrangements at the same time), and they will pick you up on about 50 feet away from the taxi stand. According to their staff, they will be waiting for you 30 minutes after your plane lands. They do require advance reservations, so we encourage you to telephone them in advance.

Attendees arriving from the east (like Detroit Metro Airport) should take I-94 West to Exit 177 (State Street). Turn right onto South State Street and head north. The Michigan Union will be on your left. Attendees arriving from the west should take I-94 East to Exit 177 (State Street). Turn left onto South State Street and head north.
