Instructor(s):
This series of integrated lectures covering various aspects of computer usage in the social sciences is designed so that a participant can attend a module in one topic without prior attendance at other lectures. However, students can obtain a broad overview of computer issues by attending the complete series. Initial lectures will introduce techniques of computing at ICPSR. In later lectures, three major statistical packages, SAS, SPSS, and Stata, will be discussed. Comparisons of the capabilities of these packages and other computing software will be developed. An abbreviated version of this course will also be offered during the second four-week session of the Program, when introductions to SAS, SPSS, and Stata will be repeated.
