What does the variables search tab search on?

The variables search engine searches through every variable of every part of every study that is within the SAMHDA archive. (Please note there is an exception to this in regards to the Monitoring the Future series.) The search engine looks at each variable's name, label, its value labels, and any accompanying question text that is present.

Variable Name: The name given to a variable in a dataset. Individual studies have their own naming procedures. The name may be descriptive (i.e., age, race) or it may relate back to the questionnaire (i.e., Q1a, Q1b).

Variable Label: A brief textual description of what the variable refers to/represents.

Value Label: A brief textual description of what each numeric value represents. Some variables may not have any value labels and some may only contain labels on some of the values.

Question Text: The text of the question as it appears within the questionnaire or as the user would have seen/read it. SAMHDA attempts to provide the full question text where possible if made available by the PI. We also try to add value to the text by providing repeating text, root and stem portions on each variable, and by including skip patterns where applicable and possible.
