SELECTED COUNTY-LEVEL VARIABLES FROM THE FOURTH COUNT 1970 U.S. CENSUS OF POPULATION AND HOUSING [Computer file]. Compiled by John McAdams, Harvard University. ICPSR ed. Please indicate in a cover letter which data were used. DATA DISCLAIMER The original collector of the data, ICPSR, and the relevant funding agency bear no responsibility for uses of this collection or for interpretations or inferences based upon such uses. 1 1 DATA COLLECTION DESCRIPTION Contained in this dataset are selected variables from the Fourth Count summary tabulations of the 1970 Census of Population and Housing, reported for each county and county equivalent in the United States as well as the District of Columbia. The file includes 96 substantive variables covering such topics as age, nativity, education, employment and income. The variables in this dataset supplement those found in the 1972 County and City Data Book (see ICPSR 61). The data were supplied to ICPSR by John McAdams of Harvard University, who retrieved them from the 1970 Census Fourth Count Summary tapes. PROCESSING INFORMATION Consortium staff reformatted the substantive variables in the dataset, and corrected a number of SMSA codes found to be in error. ICPSR state and county codes, and county names, were added to the file. No record for Alachua county, Florida, was found in the file retrieved from the Fourth Count Summary tape. Many variables for this county were located in published census reports and inserted into the file by ICPSR staff; the remainder of the variables for Alachua county contain missing data codes. The file contains 3,141 records, sorted by Census Bureau state and county codes (Variables 1 and 2). 1 1 ICPSR 7507 Page 1 Variable number Description 1 Census State Code This is a two digit code for each state.
