Instructors' Guide to the OLC

General background about the Online Learning Center can be found on the About the OLC page, but more detail is probably useful to you as an instructor in deciding about the usefulness of this site for your courses. (more)

OLC-Announce Email List

Sign up here to receive announcements about additions and updates to the OLC Web site as it moves forward into the future. Announcements might include notices of new DDLGs or other teaching resources and tools and upgrades. This is strictly an announcement-only list and the volume of messages is likely to be fairly low.

Blog

Several individuals have expressed an interest in having a forum for Instructors to discuss various uses of ICPSR data in the classroom. These discussions can focus on resources that have been created and are found on the ICPSR website or any other ways in which you make use of data in the classroom. We envision this as an "idea exchange" resource for faculty who teach using data archived by ICPSR.

MyClass Project

MyClass enables instructors to mass register students for temporary accounts such that they can download and manipulate data without going through the process of establishing permanent MyData accounts. The benefit is that MyClass enables you to focus very little classroom time on the registration process and proceed directly to working with data. After a period of time that you specify, the temporary accounts will cease to exist.

To create MyClass accounts, you must have a valid MyData account and your institution must be a member of ICPSR.

Other Resources

The Related Links page features links to ICPSR instructional resources as well as to additional external resources that might be useful in teaching.

Submit Feedback

The OLC is in its infancy and the site was created to address issues raised by faculty members in preliminary research about what would be most useful. Your feedback would be much appreciated to let us know what works and what doesn't, to suggest topics for new Data-Driven Learning Guides (DDLGs) or resources to be added to the bibliography of existing DDLGs, or to propose new functionalities within the site itself. Your feedback is important in improving the educational uses of ICPSR's resources.
