Notice to National Corrections Reporting Program Users
A potential problem regarding the county codes used for North Carolina data has been identified. The Bureau of Justice Statistics is working to determine the scope of the problem.
Data users who are performing county-level comparisons should review their results carefully. The problem seems to be limited to codes used to identify counties in North Carolina. There is no indication that counts of admissions and releases are affected.
An additional notice will be issued once the exact nature of the problem and its extent has been identified.
Summer Workshops Offer Stipend Support
The Workshop on the Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods (PHDCN) will be held June 16-20, 2008. This is a five-day course focusing on the development, implementation, and data products of PHDCN. Initiated by the National Institute Justice, the PHDCN developed into a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency funded project that combined two studies into a single, comprehensive ten year research program to: (1) study Chicago's neighborhoods, including their social, economic, organizational, political, and cultural structures; and (2) follow 7,000 randomly selected children, adolescents, and young adults over three points in time. Check the Summer Program Web site beginning February 20th for application instructions. The course summary and stipend details (PDF 492K) are available.
Quantitative Analysis of Crime and Criminal Justice, 2008, will be held during the First Session of the ICPSR Summer Program, June 23 to July 18, 2008. Note that on-line registration, supplemented by a cv and cover letter, is necessary to be considered for this Competitive Four-Week Workshop. A full course description and application information will be available by February 8th, from http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/sumprog/. On February 20th, on-line registration opens, and instructions for sending the other materials will be available online at the same URL. A course summary (PDF 184K) is available.
