Controlled Vocabularies Working Group
Charge: To develop controlled vocabularies on already identified DDI elements. Stage 2: To determine which other DDI elements require controlled vocabularies and develop those.
Timetable: Start November 2007, Stage 1 completed by June 2008. Stage 2 completed by December 2009.

Preservation Metadata Working Group
Charge: (1) To identify elements necessary for long-term preservation for integration into the DDI specification; (2) to develop a plan for digital preservation of DDI documentation that takes into account the referencing mechanisms.

Qualitative Data Exchange Working Group
Charge: To develop a robust XML based schema for qualitative data exchange and encourage tools development based upon these needs.
Timetable: Start Jan 2008, first draft schema to be produced Jan 2009. Agreed schema Dec 2009.

Charge: To develop requirements for new elements and attributes describing the process of survey design and implementation through the point of specifications for computer-assisted interviews.

Usability and Outreach Working Group
Charge: The Usability and Outreach Group works to facilitate the use and usability of the DDI standard. The group therefore reaches out to the community of current and potential DDI users in order to promote DDI adoption, to obtain feedback on the standard, and to ensure its responsiveness to user needs.
